Kathy Gray is the author of Light In Our Darkness, a speaker, mentor, and former radio talk show host whose life is devoted to helping others hear the voice of God, especially through dreams and visions. Raised in a biblically grounded, ministry-focused home, she has spent more than two decades studying biblical dream interpretation and, over the past eight years, has developed and taught dream seminars primarily within evangelical circles, equipping men and women to discern God’s voice with clarity, humility, and confidence. Negative Encounter Vs. Nightmare
- There are multiple types of encounters you can have at night.
- Joseph had an encounter with an angel in a dream. This was a positive encounter.
- One of Job’s friends describes a negative or dark encounter he had in the night.
- Examples of negative encounters might be sleep paralysis, feeling like something is holding you down, seeing a dark presence in the room, etc.
- Sometimes the atmospheres you are in are dark places and they can intrude in your dreams.
- A nightmare is forced on us from the enemy. It is not from our own mind.
Taking Authority Over Negative Encounters
- Every time you come back home before you cross the threshold of your home say “anything demonic or not of God, come off of me now. The blood of Jesus covers this place. You may not enter with me. This place is sacred; it’s for the kingdom of God.”
- Ask God to seal the room and seal the place.
- Ask God to restore your peace.
How Does Media and Entertainment Affect Your Dream Life?
- It is different for each person how much these things would affect your dreams.
- What you let in through your eye and ear gates and what you are meditating on definitely can affect your dreams.
- Even positive things can affect your dreams if we are focusing too much on those things rather than having communication with Jesus and the Holy Spirit throughout the day.
- If we are filling our minds with Christian books but ignoring the presence of the Lord that can affect our dreams.
Recurring Dreams
- Recurring dreams can confirm a matter that the Lord is speaking to you.
- Pharoah had two dreams and Joseph told him that since he had two dreams the matter was confirmed and it will take place soon.
- Peter was in a trance, and he saw the sheep let down three times and twice the voice said, “don’t call unclean what God said is clean.”
- Soul dreams are from our mind, will or emotions.
- If there is something constantly on our minds in the natural, that can cause a recurring soul dreams.
- Falling dreams could represent that you’re feeling out of control in your life and you need to turn it over to the Lord.
- Person from the past in your dreams
- Ask yourself what the pattern in your life at that time was? You could be falling back into that.
- If you dream about your first boyfriend or “first love” it could be that God is calling you to go back to your first love which is Jesus.
- Dreams are usually metaphorical.
- If you are having a recurring dream, ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.
People in Our Dreams
- The Holy Spirit is the one to show us what the message is in the dream.
- When someone else is in your dream, ask yourself if you take yourself out of the dream will the dream fall apart? If it does, the dream is for you.
- Sometimes you dream about someone, and it is more about what that person’s name means.
- The interpretation always depends on the dream itself.
Dream Themes
- Dreams about teeth are directly about our ability to understand. If your teeth are lose or they are falling out, the Lord is telling you that you need to come to Him for wisdom.
- Alligators in dreams typically refer to someone in your environment that is very dangerous because of their mouth.
- Snakes in dreams typically represent lies. The enemy was a serpent in the garden and he deceived.
- Yellow in the negative means fear or cowardice. In the positive it means sunny or bright.
- Dogs in a dream can represent a friend. If the dog is snarling at you there could be a problem in a relationship.
- Houses in dreams represent your life. Backyards refer to your past. The front yard refers to your future.
- Horses represent authority and power.
What Role Does our Brain Play in Processing Dreams?
- We typically think in Greek thinking meaning we search for logic, reasoning, science, etc.
- In Hebrew thinking it is thinking more on metaphors and parables and processing through history.
- God’s thoughts are not our thoughts.
- When we are processing, we want the Holy Spirit to expand our right brain to understand what He’s trying to say.
- When we are processing dreams, we are really heavily leaning on the spirit to help us.
How Do We Steward Dreams?
- Record your dreams.
- Have them accessible and review them.
- When you tell your dream you are translating.
- Declare out your dreams.
- Dreams are prophetic.
- If the dream shows you something, go do the dream as a prophetic act.
Community
- Surround yourself with people who have a passion for dreams and who have a passion for hearing the Lord all the ways scripture says that He speaks to us.
- Our dream life is very precious and very sacred.
- When you are speaking to someone else about dreams, treat each other with dignity and love and pray while you interpret the dreams.
